A Note From the Editor

Have you ever happened across a lovely stitched piece while browsing an antique mall or market and realized in an instant that the work you’re looking at or holding is a true treasure—a work of love from one person to another? Now, imagine that you’re standing in an Italian antique market when this happens. That was exactly what happened to Ann Golob who was in Italy working with the Florence-based U.S. organization called Advancing Women Artists (AWA). The AWA is committed to identifying, restoring and exhibiting Renaissance artwork created by women and now warehoused in Florence’s museum storage vaults.

Turn to page 30 to read more of Ann’s story and to view a few of the images from the treasure she found. Sampler Sleuth contributor Deborah Fasano did some research for us and also shares interesting details and a lovely project that she created from one of the motifs featured in the journal.

Until next issue, friends,

She said, "I have enjoyed stitching and creating art of all kinds since very early in life. My earliest creative memory is of sewing doll clothes with my mom and grandmother. I learned embroidery and cross-stitch from my great grandmother in my early teens starting with simple stamped designs and progressing to projects on stitched on Aida and linen. I truly love that whether I’m working with fabric and floss, yarn or paper, there's always something new to learn. Part of what makes stitching so enjoyable is sharing what I know and learning from others."

Tanya is a native of Indiana, and she and her husband, Jim, have six children.
