A Note From the Editor

As I do each year at this time, I find myself looking back over the past year at the good and the not-so-good, and deciding what Im carrying forward with me. Through the many unexpected and unprecedented situations that 2020 brought us, its encouraging to find that the good has won out by far.

Despite definite bumps along the way, I found myself enjoying having time to slow down and really appreciate simple things in life again. Family game nights, unhurried conversations with family and friends, bike rides or leisurely walks around our small town, sitting down to dinner with my family on a regular basis, and spending more time stitching, sewing and even rock painting with my youngest are just some of the treasures that Ill fondly recall from 2020. I sincerely hope that your year has been sprinkled with a good dose of the same!

For Just CrossStitch magazine, it has been refreshing to see more and more individuals joining our family of stitchers. If you are a new reader, or if youve simply had time to come back to JCS, we are so happy to have you. We appreciate each one of you and look forward to sharing great cross-stitch content with you in the year ahead.

Speaking of new stitchers, be sure to check out pages 3439 to see the winning designs from the 2020 Christmas Ornament Design Contest. These creative projects were submitted by six JCS readers who decided to take a chance and share their designing skills with us. We are so pleased to feature their work in this issue. If you are an aspiring cross-stitch designer, watch the February 2021 issue for your chance to enter our next contest. Perhaps next year yours will be one of the winning designs published in Just CrossStitch.

If you have a special story that youd like to share with our readers about how cross stitch brought bright spots to the past year, wed love to hear from you! Email us at and we may even share your story in an upcoming issue.

As always, please keep posting pictures of your works-in-progress on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and be sure to tag us. We love seeing what youre working on!

Until next issue, friends,

She said, "I have enjoyed stitching and creating art of all kinds since very early in life. My earliest creative memory is of sewing doll clothes with my mom and grandmother. I learned embroidery and cross-stitch from my great grandmother in my early teens starting with simple stamped designs and progressing to projects on stitched on Aida and linen. I truly love that whether I'm working with fabric and floss, yarn or paper, there's always something new to learn. Part of what makes stitching so enjoyable is sharing what I know and learning from others."
