Inspired by an 1844 sample from Pachuca, Mexico, this reticule is a trifold stitcher's purse. It features techniques common to Mexican samplers such as Aztec stitch and cross stitch worked over 3 x 3 linen ground threads. There are areas worked in drawn thread (Aztec) and pulled thread as well as motifs worked in long arm cross and satin stitch variations. The color palette is hot pink, aqua blue, yellow, cream, spruce green and antique gold.
The reticule is worked on Belfast linen with Gloriana silk flosses and is lined in a complementary silk Dupioni. Inside, it features three pockets to hold the thread winder and scissor fob included in the kit, as well as other tools you may wish to add. The stitched ruler fits into the main compartment of the reticule. The reticule is secured with a bead and loop closure.
The kit includes linen, silk lining fabric, pearl cotton, silk flosses, interfacing, beading thread for construction, skirtex, beads, full color charts, detailed instructions with photos and diagrams, color photocopies and assorted supplemental information on stitches, cords, tassels and specialty stitches.
