Summertime means time at the beach, lake, creek or any shoreline for so many people. For me, it has always been synonymous with water; growing up in coastal Alabama, I was always entranced by the lighthouses in the bay and along the coast. That same intrigue followed when I was fortunate to tour lighthouses along the east coast in Florida, Georgia and Maine several years ago. There is something strong, solid and welcoming about a lighthouse, and it appears that stitchers feel the same way. We've had several lighthouses over the years in Just CrossStitch, and they are always greeted with a warm reception by stitchers. Here is a lovely lighthouse design from Julia Lucas. The rich reds, calm blues and bright greens combine for a perfect summer stitching project. Plus, the size makes it easy to transport on vacation or just to your porch or patio.

"Windswept" was stitched on light blue 18-count Aida by DMC using DMC floss and Kreinik #8 braid. Stitched piece was custom framed.

1. Center and stitch design, stitching over one thread using two strands floss for Cross-Stitch and one strand of floss or #8 braid for Backstitch.
