A Note From the Editor

"I'm bored!" Who hasn't heard that from a child in the summertime? My mother either said, "Clean the bathroom" or "Here's a needlework kit." I always preferred the latter. As an adult, I still think of summer as a good time for stitching. In this month's issue, you'll find plenty of projects to keep you busy.

For those of you on "stay-cation" rather than vacation, we have projects to sate your yearning to travel. You can take a Road Trip with our RV duo, or enjoy a beach getaway as you Sail Into Summer and get busy Building Sand Castles. You can get on a Caribbean Boat and head for the tropics, where you might find a graceful Flamingo. A Coral Pillow will be the perfect place to rest your head and dream of these lovely locales.

As you lounge in the sunshine, enjoy some OJ with Citrus Motifs. If you'd rather be inside, crank up the AC, sip some hot chocolate, and get in the Christmas spirit. Yes, I said Christmas! Many cross stitchers make ornaments year-round, and here we offer a set of 10 to whet your appetite for the Just CrossStitch Christmas Ornaments special issue coming soon.

Speaking of holidays, we haven't forgotten the Fourth of July. View the fireworks in this issue's installment of Seasons in Chalk Art. Or if you want a quick project, make some Patriotic Pinwheel Coasters (which will be handy when you're sipping that OJ or hot chocolate!).

Have some serious fun with two vintage designs: a sampler reproduction -- unusual because it originated from a young boy instead of a girl -- and a primitive picture of a Summer Farm Maiden.

If you're up for a challenge, create a cuter-than-cute puppy in a garden. Don't be fooled by the easy, breezy style of this design -- it has lots of specialty stitches and color changes for experienced cross stitchers.

Back to those "boring" weeks off from school. As a lifelong cross stitcher, I want to share the love with the younger generation with two beginner kits that I describe in Favorite Finds.

We have so many fun summer projects you will be creating well into the fall.

Stay in stitches!
